The Control Software Engineer is responsible for all phases of developing and testing of real-time embedded software for Electric and Hybrid Delivery vehicles. This software is a key element of the overall vehicle architecture and is of a highly proprietary nature, making this person a key member of both the engineering and customer service teams.

Job Responsibilities

The Control Software Engineer role includes but is not limited to developing real-time control software embedded in the control systems within full electric and hybrid delivery vans. This role includes:

  • Troubleshooting and debugging software, aiding other team members in generating vehicle control strategies.
  • Travel to the customer sites to aid in troubleshooting and repairs of disabled vehicles.
  • Development of vehicle embedded code in vehicle control systems such as drive/motion controllers, Battery Management Systems (BMS), DC/DC converters, vehicle charging systems and the like.
  • Testing and validation of developed code.
  • Documenting of code.
  • Frequent operation and driving of vehicles for testing and data logging is required.

Experience & Qualifications

  • The role requires a working knowledge of C, CAN networks and an ability to learn purchased equipment embedded code and configuration methods.
  • The role requires some physical agility as working on lifts and under vehicles may be required occasionally.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and 2-5 years of experience in programming real-time systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams is required.
  • Good written and verbal skills are required.
  • Ability to deal with working under stress and tight deadlines.

Environmental Conditions

The job requires working in a manufacturing environment in close proximity to moving machinery, occasional loud noises, and high voltage electricity. Driving and or riding in delivery vans to record and troubleshoot issues will be required occasionally, as well as working in customers service centers and depots to resolve issues. On occasion weekend and evening hours work will be required.

Physical Requirements

The Software Engineer role requires the ability to move freely in and out of delivery vans, some occasional work on elevated platforms and ladders.
